Renowned for its idyllic palm lined beaches, Hindu culture and tropical forested hills. Bali, Indonesia is the perfect destination if you're looking for a mix of culture and beautiful scenery mixed with the perfect conditions for kitesurfing, surfing, stand up paddleboarding (SUP), foil lessons and wind wing lessons.
Sailing Spot and Conditions
The best known Bali kitesurfing spot is at Sanur Beach on the south west of the island. Sanur offers a vast flat water area suitable for all levels with a beginners zone and wave spots at a number of offshore reefs. Bali has long been estabished as a surfing spot with amazing surf on the south east and south west coast generated by the southern ocean swells. The best time to go is the dryer winter months from June - September. There is more wind at other times but this is less predictable for example, it can be very strong and gusty from monsoon weather patterns. The offshore reefs create an extensive, inshore flat-water cruising area with a variety of wave spots for all levels. Kite beach is the main kiting beach at the south of Sanur (downwind) with Baby Reef just offshore providing an ideal starting point for beginners and those new to the area. In the Dry Season (May-Sept) all along Sanur Beach are wave spots which can be accessed from all the launch points which offer a range of conditions such as wave riding, jumping, flat water areas and speed tracks. Each location offers differing wind strengths and wave sizing to allow you to find your ideal conditions.
Culture and Activities
Bali is a stunningly beautiful island. Just 70 x 40kms, the island is easy to explore by car, local bemo, minibus or escorted tour. As well as a fascinating culture there is also diving, trekking, rafting, cycling and surfing tours. Balinese people are very friendly and you can enjoy exploring the local markets with wood carvings, silverware and paintings. Bali has over 10,000 temples with The Pura Tanah Lot temple now a photographic pilgrimage for it's spectacular sunset vista. Balinese arts and crafts, theatre and display dancing are seen all over the island. Kuta on the west coast, is like the 'costa del sol' for the Aussies. Head here if you want to party all night long in the bars and clubs. For the cultural heart of Bali, head to Ubud, an artistic centre, home to holy temples, the Presidential Palace and long-tailed Macaque monkeys. It is also the starting point for Volcano treks through and above the clouds for spectacular vistas.
