Sailing Spot and Conditions
Sigri, on the Greek Island of Lesbos, offers windsurfing and kitesurfing holidays with a large water area, waves and choice of 5 sailing spots. The main sailing area is Sigri Bay directly in front of the centre where you can find flat water and waves. There is a shallow water area for practicing maneuvers and waves coming in from the channel into the bay.Wave height starts at 0.5m and can reach 2.5m+ on big days. Culture and Activities
Sigri is a small, traditional village of 300 inhabitants. Sleepy cobbled streets lead to the pretty marina where fishing along with agriculture is still the main industry in the village. There are approximately 7 locally owned Tavernas serving authentic and inexpensive Greek dishes plus a few bars which are the main meeting point in the village. There are two small supermarkets, a bakery for your fresh bread and a fresh fruit and veg van every day except Thursday and Sunday. If you need cash the nearest bank is at Scala Eressos 28km away - around 30 minutes by taxi/bus. Most of the restaurants have free internet connection for your computer. Once in Sigri, getting around is easy as it’s a small village. You can either walk to rent a bike from only 6 Euros per day. The windsurf and kitesurf centre are only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Sigri village. They have an excellent range of mountain bikes for exploring further afield. Lesvos is excellent cycling country with choice of flat, moderate and challenging mountain routes. The centre can give details of sights to head for including the mountain church Moni Ipsilou or routes to take in the magnificent views over the bays including the Petrified forest with prehistoric fauna or hot springs. Discover the island's history through ancient stories of Aristotle, the Trojan war, Odysseaus and Achilles. The island prides itself on it’s fresh produce. You will find traditional dishes using local cheeses, local lamb and fresh fish. Ouzo and of course olive oil is produced on the island and important exports. The locals mainly lead a rural life and are traditional and welcoming to visitors.
